Reptile Mischief and other Randomness

Somewhere out there in the Cosmic Administration Office is the signup sheet for "Cute Animals You Would Like to Live in Your Backyard." And because, not unlike today, I was having an allergy-ridden swollen-eyelidded sneezefest when the memo came out, I failed to sign up for "precious bunnies" and "darling dragonflies."

I got what was left over, and it turns out that was "snakes." Yeah. Woo Hoo. Pardon me while I take a moment out to Not Celebrate.

DH and his group of buddies disposed of a dozen the day they poured the cement in the side yard last month. That's right, I said a DOZEN. This is approximately 13 too many snakes in my yard. I don't CARE that they love all the rock-gardeny goodness, nor the semi-arid climate-y attraction of slithering blithely along in the afternoon sun IN MY YARD.

Well, as I said, the guys disposed of them. With great glee, candidly. Snakes were flying up and over the back fence with alarming frequency that day (much to the chagrin of a pedestrian down on the path at one point). And as pouring the cement eliminated a lot of weeds (yeah, I know, expensive weed control, cement is, but hey, it's long-lasting!) we figured that was the end of THAT little party.

Unfortunately snakes' psyches are a bit too durable for my taste (let me assure you with haste and no wavering that when I say taste I am in no way referring to taste BUDS but rather to preferences of a general sort, as I have absolutely and unequivocably NO desire to investigate the old chestnut about snakes tasting like chicken). There have been several sightings since, including about 5 more fence-flinging frenzies this past weekend. And just this afternoon I was holding the new handrail for the new steps in place so David could fasten it down, and sure enough, another hardy reptilian soul was stretched out in the sun on one of the flower beds (dear reader, kindly use the term "flower" bed with Very Low Expectations in the accuracy area of your mind - perhaps "Plant Growing Area would be a more apt descriptor).

The sad thing is that out of respect for me and my girlie squeamishness, my husband didn't squish it with a post, so it hightailed it (I know, I know, work with me here) under the deck. Where it lurks. And waits.

Other than the fact that I can no longer go out into my backyard, recent life has been relatively uneventful. We took a nice drive in the hills yesterday, then came home and cooked hot dogs over the very suburban gas firepit, LOL. No end to our willingness to "rough it..."

I love doing the Design Challenge at Hummiesworld based on a color palette - it's always interesting to work from a prescribed palette, and it's fun to see what everyone else does with the same colors. Plus, to be honest, I love that I get to give it away and not feel guilty, LOL!

So without further ado, here is Industrial Spook, a classic Halloween theme that has been twisted just a bit. And I think you'll find that other than the bats, everything else is really quite neutral and can be used for almost any layout.

New Release Wednesday - October

I love October. I love the rich colors that Mother Nature throws together on her palette; the greens and golds and scarlets and maroons and brown. I love the fresh earthy smell. I love the way the sky gets clear again after the haze of summer, and the contrast of snow on the mountains against the vibrant blue backdrop. The sun is warm, but not brutal, the stars are sharp in the velvety black night sky.

So it's no surprise that I found myself drawn to this color palette, and even less surprise that I settled on the fantastically creative name of "October." I guess it's just lucky that I had my colors chosen before the last three days which have been grey, rainy, foggy, and anything but vivid... :)

Ok, it's official. 4Shared dislikes me. But whatever. I uploaded the Lady of the Lake Alpha AGAIN, and here's the new LINK. The good news is that after concentrated effort (ok, I was concentrating on avoiding cleaning my house, but whatever) I figured out the font (Rina) and so as I get the time I will finish the job :) I have company this week, though, so it may not be til next week...

A while ago, I started to make an alpha to go with the kit of obsession (Lady of the Lake for those of you who are new to my silly passions, LOL). I got the upper and lower case characters finished, and then for one reason or another the project got shelved.

Ok, the project got shoved to the furthest corner of my hard drive.

The other day, I got it out, intending to add the numbers and punctuation. There was just one tiny little problem.

I can't remember the name of the font I used. I don't even know what letter it started with so I can go look it up, LOL. You would think I would plan for this - I know me. But at the time I figured I would be finishing it the next day, and....

So here it is, in all its numberless, punctuationless glory. It's still kinda purty :) And if you think you know what font it is, leave me a note and I'll finish the job!

Midnight, and Pumpkins, and Freebies...

I have a little conflict in my mind over Halloween. I think there are so many cute things to scrap with, but I never wanted to spend my precious scrap dollars on something that I could ONLY use for Halloween.

So here's my little compromise, available today at Plain Digital Wrapper - Midnight Pumpkin: The papers are not Halloween specific, so you are free to use them for other things, and because all of my kits are Scrap4Hire friendly, it's a good choice for your stash!


The elements include several full page overlays with various Halloween themes, as well as lots of spooky elements to compliment your little spooks, but I added a few neutral items, too.

Lastly, I included two full "scenic" overlays which you can use with the paper of your choice:

Points to Ponder

Interesting. I threw 3 plastic bags into the microwave, one right after another, and squeezed some flavored chicken breasts into a pan to cook, and I feel like I made a home made meal. Feel quite virtuous, actually. Even though the only reason I went to all this "trouble" to "cook" was because I was too lazy to get in the car and go get pizza...

And speaking of the microwave, why is it that I can put grated cheese on some chips, and after 30 seconds it isn't even melted, but boy, put a bottle of honey in there for the same 30 seconds, and you have molten hot lava on your hands? And I do mean on your hands, because the silly plastic bear couldn't take the pressure... Yum, I always love melted plastic in my tea :)

And honey makes me think of my last trip to KFC (on a day when there were no plastic bags of frozen veggies in my freezer). Did you know that they actually have stopped giving out little packets of honey??? No, instead we are blessed with honey "sauce." Come ON. Honey "Sauce?" What, the bees had a rough day and went out and got plastered before they hit the hive? Sheesh. And funny how they managed to make the "sauce" out of corn syrup. Tsk Tsk. Harlan Sanders is rolling in his grave. Next we'll find out that there are no 11 secret herbs and spices... No worries. I'm sure there's a frozen microwaveable bag SOMEWHERE in the freezer.
